Kin Physical Traits

The Kin will have physical traits based on their progenitors.  The tree will contain abilities that will allow the player to take on aspects of a dragonkin.  The ability tree will not allow someone to take the form of a full-size dragon.

Dragonscale
Your skin becomes dragonscale reducing damage by X

Claws
Your hands and feet become claws increasing hand-to-hand damage by X

Dragon Sight
Your senses are augmented increasing your range by X and allowing you to see in natural darkness

Dragon Senses
You can smell and hear prey or predator.  Able to detect stealthed or invisible creatures within X

Wings
Your form includes wings.  Wings can be used for various abilities.

Wing Buffet
You flap your wings knocking back any beings within (5xY) yards.

Wing Shield
You use your wings as a protective shield reducing all damage taken by X

Larger Wings (x3)
Increases the size of your wings.  Larger wings increase knockback radius for wing buffet as well as increasing the damage reduction from Wing Shield

Wing Phalanx
Your wings are large enough to protect others.  You and friendly beings are protected temporarily from all damage but cannot use abilities that extend beyond the phalanx.

Soar
Your wings can slowly your fall allowing you to land safely.

Leap
Your increased strength and wingspan allow you to leap large distances.

Talons Out
You have the ability to leap with great precision and force allowing you to leap on to an enemy doing X damage and potentially knocking it down.

Flight
You have learned to use your wings as pureblood dragons do.   You can fly at X% run speed

Swift Flight
Dragons do not only fly through the use of wings, they use their power over nature to propel them through the air.  You can fly at X% run speed.

Kin Classes/Abilities

The Kin classes will be based on the dragonflight of their ancestor(s).  This is a work in progress.

White (The bearers of light)
Illusionists that bend light to their will.  This power can be used to blind, to burn, or to deceive.  Humans often perceive them as being aligned with the "holy" or "good".  However, dragons have no concept of either.  The white dragonflight has involved itself greatly in human politics and were the first to master a believable human form.

Black (The shadow walkers)
There cannot be light without shadow.  The black dragonflight can confuse, confound, and to infirm.  As humans often fear the darkness, the black dragonflight has been maligned by them.  The black dragonflight has always relied on stealth and so initially spoke from the shadows.  After discovering the white dragon illusion of human form, they gained the ability to sit on the throne rather than next to it but often still lack the inclination.

Green (The plague spewers)
Acid, bile, venom.  The green dragonflight is poison.  A green dragon lair is surrounded by death.  Even in human form, they are generally characterized as spewing venom.  Only female greens have ever successfully mated with humans as the blood of even second generation Green Kin is often fatal to the mother.

Gold (The life warders)
The gold were the first to cast their armor aside.  However, as very social creatures they chose to live as groups in isolated areas rather than attempt hermitage or masking as humans.  However, these areas were often under siege and so the gold strived to keep their locations hidden   Only after being discovered by humans and forced to kill them on several occasions did they chose to live among them.

Blue (The frozen horde)
Solitary creatures that avoid warmth in most of its forms.  Their interaction with humans remain limited but the same is true of their interactions with other dragons.  As a result, they have never been a populace group.  They  used magic and fortification to make up for their lack of numbers.

Red (The incinerators)
Most well known among humans, partially because of their tendency to destroy cities on a whim, they are ruled by their passions.  Even in human form, most humans find it uncomfortably warm in a room with them.

As far as abilities, most will be elemental based.  The White and Black will utilize fear and illusion.  Mind-control may very well be available to all.

Some Kin can polymorph.  In this form, they appear as bipedal dragon-like creatures with wings capable of short-term flight and covered in dragonscale.  Have not yet decided which dragonflights will get this ability.  Currently imagine allowing all flights to have this talent available.

Imagining three skill/talent/trait trees at the moment.  Mystical... Social... Physical...  indicating what they inherited from their ancestors.  As social/NPC interaction should have a larger effect than in many current MMOs, I desire to make a social build useful in many cases.

Species/Races

Although the physics engine and class structure will power the game, the truth is characters, story, environment are we lead to immersion.  Story will continue to develop throughout the life of the project.  However, the character types available will shape development.

The Kin
Dragons walked Ptera for many years.  The dragonflights were never at peace.  When humans discovered the remnants of their species, they found only those that had cast off their armor and chosen to avoid other dragons.  Perceiving their destroyed armor to be treasure hoards, these remaining dragons were hunted.  In very rare cases, extraordinary humans were capable of killing an unarmed dragon but by and large age killed these hermits.
The dragons that had not cast aside their armor continued battling along old flight lines.  They largely ignored humans but as human expansion and fortifications grew many chose to interact with humans.  Some chose to subjugate humans; worshiped as deities or simply using might to seize power.  By and large, these dragons became easy stationery targets for other dragons.

Some chose to disguise themselves as humans to either escape the constant warring or use the humans to their own ends.  The Kin are the offspring and descendants of these dragons.  Infused with power by the blood in their veins, nearly all the dragonflights have sired Kin.  Although there are stories of the blood of multiple dragonflights being found in the same Kin, the very idea disgusts most Kin who maintain their age old hatreds.  As the Kin grew in number, they discovered one another.  The age old hatreds arose again and bloodshed remains common when a Kin is identified by his fellows or one of the few remaining pureblood dragons.  As a result, the Kin remain hidden among humans.  There training has waned and their natural abilities vary greatly.

Demis
The Illumin are all that remain of an ancient species.  Roughly a dozen families are all that remain.  The families rarely interact with one another and generally give one another a wide berth.  Often referring to themselves as "gods" among the humans, they have been worshiped, maligned and feared by humans for centuries.  The Illumin influenced much of early human civilization; controlling politics demanding sacrifice and tribute, and toying with humans.  This behavior led to warring among humans and eventually their "patrons".  The results were the things of legends: great uprisings of the seas, sandstorms of immense strength, fiery hail, volcanic eruptions, Illumin killing other Illumin... In most cases, a simple reminder of their mortality was enough to cause a family of Illumin to forego their public lives and return to their citadels.

The Illumin began choosing "pets" from among the humans nearly as soon as they interacted with them.  They were initially amazed that viable offspring could result.  The Illumin reproduce rarely among themselves and in most cases among the remaining Illumin familial connections preclude healthy births.  The practice of Illumin pairing with humans led to the creation of a ruling class in the nearby tribes.  These tribes quickly overcame their neighbors; their child leaders using immense power to decimate their foes.  The humans referred to this new group as "demigods".

However, the practice was short-lived.  Roughly 30 years after the first "demigod" was born, a war was being waged by the followers of an Illumin named Xion led by his son Aran.  Aran stood before a line of opposing soldiers.  His own army outnumbered them significantly and he alone could cause the demise of the opposing force.  Clearly, they were outmatched.  But rather than seeing desperation in the eyes of his enemy or fear, he saw resolve.  The men who faced him knew their fate and chose it.  He called to his men to leave the field and sent an envoy to discuss a peace agreement.  When Xion became aware of this, he was infuriated.  He unleashed a firestorm that destroyed the field of battle, the camps, and nearly everyone  nearby.  Aran went into the mountains and found the citadel of Xion and challenged him.  Xion underestimated his son.  A single lightning strike could easily destroy the human.  However, when Aran still stood after the strike. Xion realized too late what the demigods were capable of.  Aran had absorbed the strike and unleashed it at Xion.  A "god" was struck down with his own power.

Aran came down from the mountains and returned to his people.  The Illumin vowed to never create another  offspring with humans.  Isolated incidents occurred and were more often than not the offspring were killed in their youth.

However, the lust of the Illumin had created many "demigods".  Their descendants became the Demis, imbued with the power of their ancestors.  In some cases their breeding has led individuals with extraordinary potential.  These individuals are often hunted by the Illumin fearing that another such as Aran could arise.  In most cases, however, the blood of the Illumin runs thin among the Demis.
